You *might* say that, since the Greeks had proposed a "version" of evolution long before Jesus existed. Then too there were several others that had come to similar conclusions and were getting ready to submit their papers.

This is the "funny" thing about science, when enough information builds up, the implications are often "discovered" by several people.

However, to be honest, nothing in this would qualify as "plagiarism" and even in the case that it was, it would not change the fact that the theory of evolution is massively supported by evidence and at best would only change who we credit establishing the theory of evolution.

Scientists do not consider using the ideas of others as plagiarism. Indeed, it is necessary for each scientist to build on the work of others. They would never get anywhere if they had to start from scratch every time.

The Church demonstrated the falsity and folly of Darwin’s theories by showing that they contradicted the Mosaic account of creation, and now that the theories of Darwin having been fairly established, the Church says that the Mosaic account is true because it is in harmony with Darwin. Now, if it should turn out that Darwin was mistaken, what then?
